Azerbaijan in short Azerbaijan enters the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 2008, completing the latest addition to the map of Europe, the Caucasus, from which both Armenia and Georgia have previously joined.
The people of Azerbaijan speak a Turkish dialect called Azeri, and the country lists as number 129 in the international democracy index by the Economist, and is the second country listed as an Authoritarian regime to enter the Eurovision Song Contest. 2008 The Azerbaijani National Final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 took place in the capital Baku on 2 February 2008. The winners were Elnur Gusseinov & Samir Javadzadeh
