Belgium has so far missed just three contests, but have won ESC only once with Sandra Kim in 1986. Belgium came second on a few occasions too, but always when represented by the Walloon broadcaster RTBF.
Unfortunately, it is the turn of VRT, the broadcaster that never did better than 6th (and that was in 1959), to choose the entry this year.

In a year when many countries imitate the winner and runner-up of the previous year, Belgium has done the original and chose an almost identical copy of the last place, Dervish. The group Ishtar will perform O Julissi , a song sung in Belgian.
