Denmark in short Denmark was the first Nordic country to win the contest - in 1963, when Anni-Frid was still doing Agnetha's braids after school. The winners, Grethe & Jørgen Ingmann owe their victory to a dubious neighbourly vote (see also: Norway), leaving Katie Boyle confused. In 1967 the Danes left the contest for over a decade, only to return to it as the indisputable queen of bubblegum schlager.
In 2007, DQ failed to convince the public that his song is any more original than his breasts are real, and ended 19th in the semifinal. 2008 Simon Mathew, who was described as "Thomas Thordarson meet Roger Cicero", won the Danish MGP with the Beatle-esque tune All Night Long.
The song does seem to last all night long indeed; we guarantee, however, that in fact it is only 3 minutes long. |
