Spain in short Since Spain joined the Eurovision Nations in 1961 they submitted a song each year. In 1968 and 1969 Spain even won the contest, and a few more second places (1972, 1979, 1995) were to follow. Under televoting Spain has done reasonably well with a few top 10 finishes, but in 2005 Las Ketchup-clones Son de Sol ended up in the Big Bottom 4. Unfortunately the real Ketchup girls didn't do much better the year after.
In 2007 the Spanish selection system could be called anything but unoriginal, with the songs selected separately from the singers. The results however was just the same as the previous two years, a cheap song by incompetent singers and a bottom 4 placing. 2008 If you thought last year was original, TVE announced this year the artists will be chosen via Myspace. Their clever plan backfired and a mass-campaign resulted in Rodolfo Chikilicuatre winning their final with the song Baila el chiki chiki. It's not all bad news, however, the song weighs in at just over 2 minutes long, so make sure you're back from the toilet before the next song. Unless it's the UK. |
