France in short La France has won the Eurovision Song Contest on five occasions, though it should be noted that four of them were before 1970, when the French chanson was still big in Europe. After that year, apart from Marie Myriam, only neighbouring countries seemed to win with this good old formula. In the 1990's France therefore changed style, and came with a couple of entries in different genres, with exotic influences from overseas territories, including Corsica and Bretagne.
Their results since 2002 were not encouraging, including three bottom 3 endings and never higher than 15th. Yet, their delegation promised us that even if nobody ever likes what they come up with, they still will take part every year. 2008 For the second year in a row, France is sending a man with bad facial haircut and a song full of English. Sebastian Tellier was internally selected with his song Divine. |
