Israel in short Israel was the first non-European country to join the contest (in 1974), a fact which did not stop them from storming into the scoreboards with many good results and two victories in their first decade. What did stop them afterwards was the declining quality of their entries, and since the early 1990's they had no good result (except two medically modified singers, Dana International and Shiri Maymon).
In Helsinki, veteran band Teapacks spent their rehearsal period arguing with the camera crew, which resulted in the 24th spot in the semifinal. 2008 Idol show winner Boaz Mauda presented five songs to the public in a collaboration between IBA and the commercial channel. The winning song is called Ke'ilu kan and is written by no other than Dana International. Boaz has not only created a backing group almost identical to the one of Dana in Eurovision 1998, but rumours has it that Boaz is in fact Dana's twin sister, which their close to identical voices would confirm. However, no other proof has yet been found. |
