Netherlands in short The Netherlands were one of the most successful countries in Eurovision with four victories during the contest's first 2 decades of existence. It's been downhill from then on. Public interest has sharply decreased since the turn of the millennium as dismal results started to accumulate, even though common belief, in the polders, is that the Dutch failures are more a result of 'Eastern Block Voting', rather than home grown failures. The Dutch have missed the last three Eurovision finals. 2008 2008 Like it did in 2007, Dutch broadcaster NOS selected an artist internally. Singer Hind Laroussi, or simply Hind, came 3rd in the first edition of the Dutch Idols (Pop Idol) in 2003. Being of Moroccan descent some of her previously released singles featured a hint of Arabic influences. She has yet to set the Dutch charts alight, though she had minor success with Summer all over again in 2004. On 7 March Hind presented the song Your Heart Belongs To Me, which she co-wrote herself some five years ago. |
