Portugal in short Portugal holds the dubious record of being the country waiting the longest to ever get - even for a second - in the lead in an ESC voting. Needless to say the Portuguese still didn't win either; the best result so far has been a 6th place in 1996 with O meu coração tem cor, sung by movie star Lúcia Moniz. Encouraging news for Portugal is the fact that they were the highest scoring Western country last year, only 3 points away from making the final with Dança Comigo, so perhaps they're on to something. 2008 Portugal will be represented by the song Senhora do mar sung by Vânia Fernandes . The song is written by Carlos Coelho , the Portuguese songwriter who was especially invited by RTP after having participated in national finals abroad several times, and has now written the Portuguese entry with some help from Croatian songwriter Andrej Babic |
