Sweden in short Having won less times than Ireland or Luxembourg, Sweden's success in Eurovision stretches beyond their own victories. Swedish artists performed Norway's two and Greece's only winning entry, and Swedish audio, video and lighting technology is a popular choice among hosting countries, although many a fan wonder why. Recently Swedish artists and composers toured national finals all over Europe, apart from their own Melodifestivalen, not always without success. Furthermore, the current boss of the ESC is a Swede.
Sweden's entries may often resemble each other, but as long as the classic Eurovision schlager sound is still going strong with televotes around Europe, this music is likely to continue to remain a popular choice for the biggest of the Nordic countries. Because nobody can make a schlager stromper like the Swedes! 2008 No change of format was announced, and four semifinals and a second chance night will select entries for Melodifestivalen, which took place on March 15th.
Following the humiliating defeat of Carola in the Andra Chansen (wildcard) round, the MF road to victory was all but paved for ESC 1999 winner Charlotte Perrelli (fka Nilsson). With several Message Board folk in attendance, Charlotte won MF after securing the jury vote and losing out on the televote tally, however not by a large enough margin to deny her victory. 2nd place loser (or winner, however you look at it) Sanna Nielsen and her snoozefest aptly named Empty Room was left with 206 points to Charlotte's 224. So along with her never ending legs and catlike facial ticks, Ms Perrelli will head to Belgrade to try and duplicate her 99 victory. |
