Slovenia in short Although it can be argued whether Slovenia is a Balkan or an Alpine/Western European country, there is no doubt that when it comes to success in Eurovision, they are much closer to their Austrian neighbours. Joined in 1993, Slovenia saw the top 7 only twice, and qualified from the semifinal just once. What they do see, and in abundance, are Pop- and Ethno-Schlagers in their national final, EMA, which is sometimes considered Melodifestivalen of the South.
In 2007 Slovenia was taken over by composer/choreographer/backing singer Andrej Babic (known as Siegel of the South) with Alenka Gotar, singing Cvet z Juga (Flower of the South), and made a great result in Slovenian terms (15th in the final). 2008 Narrowly missing Olivia Lewis' persistence record but narrowly defeating her EMA opponents, Rebeka Dremelj is finally going to Eurovision, where she'll sing Vrag Naj Vzame. |
