Turkey in Eurovision 2008 - Deli (Mor ve Ötesi) - Eurovision Nation Turkey

Turkey in short

Turkey entered the contest in 1975 straight to the last place. After some years taking turns with Greece they became regulars in the contest, but their results did not improve much, with the notorious nul points reached by Seyyal Taner and the late Cetin Alp. It took about two decades for Europe to get used to their oriental sound, and once they did - poor results are a thing of the past for Turkey.

Their best result and only victory to date was Everyway that I can by the very excited Sertab Erener in 2003. Most other results this decade were also in the top 10, and with their dear dear friends Azerbaijan joining, things are only looking better for once tragic country.

2008

Rock band Mor ve Ötesi were internally selected by TRT. Much to the horror of rock music fans worldwide, the band will sing their song Deli in Turkish. Deli is a love song, where the singer is looking for his soul. Rumours that his parents sold it to Azerbaijan's entrant when he was young are as yet unconfirmed.

A deli can be described as a synthesis of a fast-food restaurant and a grocery store. In Germany, deli has a slightly different meaning; it designates top-quality foodstuffs. This important difference is the sole reason why 12 points will go from Germany to Turkey in the final.
