14:18 - Wrapping up

If you're still reading this, a giant thank you for visiting and commenting on the message board and contact form (ok, 80% of the letters were advising us that the use of the short name "Macedonia" is incorrect, but thank you anyway for bringing this important matter to our attention).

This blog will stay online for a bit longer, in case you'd like to look backwards and see how wrong our predictions were.

Once again I can't thank enough to our bloggers, hopefully they managed to have a good time and not just spend their whole time in the press room (judging by Paul's professional videos, I strongly doubt that though). Thank you fellow websites (particularly AKOE for letting us use their videos when our cameras ran out of batteries) and the broadcasters who accredited us (less so for those who gave us the wrong accreditation - see Jelena's blog below).

So now let's relax and get back to our own lives and respective message boards for a quiet off-season. (escnation message board excluded - the busy time of the year with the more important contests has just begun).

Bye now :)

15:04 - All well ends fast!

Or something like that!

I'd thought to give a final word on the whole thing and this moment might be the right one.

If you were wondering was it so perfect as self praise of organizers might imply, errrr....no. It wasn't.
Yours truly got pissed with messed up accreditation, and how professional is not to answer emails or phone calls or give information to people about what type of accreditation they've been granted? And how about doing that BEFORE first rehearsals start? As if system on the official site was there just as an ornament. So, minus on that.
Either way, yours truly managed to do almost everything she was suppose to do in order to give you an insight on what was happening, so did the other members of fab escnation.com team ;)
We hope you've enjoyed our views ;)

Next! Did somebody say volunteers? Yes, well, lil me did a lil research and voila! Small number of them were actually trained, great number of them wasn't trained at all. Which explains this conversation that kept happening every time I asked something: " We don't know", "Ok, who knows?" "We don't know". "Can you call your boss and ask? This is very important for me to know" "We are not allowed to call our boss". Then I realized that things are like this when you are a local and speak Serbian, since they are very helpful and kind to the foreigners. Guess somebody told them that locals won't say anything that might damage the 'perfect organization' story image. Think again.

Now , the stage and other stuff. Stage looked really impressive when you stand in front of it and all, not to mention that it looked great on tv - we thought so tho -, but real jewels are people who obviously worked their asses of to make it all happen: stage manager ( famous Henrik ) and the stage crew. They had incredibly hard time during the first turn of rehearsals, especially with Russian and Greek props, that at one point I thought there will be a massive wrist slitting. KUDOS to all of them, its a hard work.

Hosts: ah well. Not good, not bad, average, low profile. Fine with me, coz it shouldn't be about them either way. I bet she enjoyed changing so many outfits ;) Some people say that Zeljko had a healthy giggle when Dima received his first 12 and the whole Arena booed ;)

What we liked the most were the postcards. I must say I hated the first I saw, Montenegrin, I thought it was awful and I said it, but when I saw Greek postcard , which is my absolute favorite, I withdraw what I said before ( plus, Jeremy gave me an evil eye on this, nuff reason for me lol ). What is fab about them is that there wasnt the usual scenery stuff and shite like that. It was about people writing postcards from Belgrade, Serbia to their families and friends, telling them about the time they are spending here. So, it was about people, coz people make places, especially this place, beautiful. So, KUDOS to whomever thought of this, brilliant! :)

Winner. "This is bullshit" . Its not like we didn't know he will win, but we wanted so much for him to fail. Everybody was predicting Russian win months ago, its just when you spend so much time in the press centre with the rest of the press - that is totally uninterested in Eurovision- fan press -that makes the whole thing moving- and fans, you just lose the connection with reality. If the rest of the televoters saw what we saw on press conferences I'm sure that they'd vote differently...well, at least some of them would. As I said before and I wont make it look pretty, people at the press centre hated his guts and I personaly saw when a reporter from one TV wanted to ask him few questions and he said " I don't give interviews". WTF was that!!?? As his former fan ( I promptly started despising him after I saw what kind of an arrogant twat he is ), must say that his win is a total downer for me. Let me be clear, I have nothing against Russia winning the contest, if someone is participating, that someone has chances of winning indeed, but I'm kinda miffed coz it was the Diva's win. So, this is bullshit. And KUDOS to the Swedes for not giving him even one point.;)
After the unfortunate thing happened,me screaming "What, is this it, nobody else to vote? Please, please, somebody!!" and crazy laughter ( coz it is funny in a way ) we were entitled to some fine wine, over which we've formed Northern-Southern Union ( new voting block) ;)

I have to emphasize and give another contingent of KUDOS to Keith and Peter from All kinds of everything and OnEurope team! You guys totally rock! There has to be so much love and enthusiasm in all of you for the contest so you can follow every possible rehearsal and write all about it on your sites and blogs. It was great pleasure for me to meet you and i hope we'll meet again someday ;)

When I'm talking about huge KUDOS, I can't but not mention OGAE Serbia that had the tough job of organizing EuroCafe and Euroclub. Not all can be satisfied but so much work and sleepless weeks they've put into making it look good can't pass unnoticed. Way to go people! ;)

People from eurovision.tv ( especially our Andreas ) deserved a friendly wave as well. They are one nice bunch of people. Seriously. ;)

And the last , but not at all the least, escnation.com team. You know when you have that feeling of knowing someone your whole life? Those buggers that write stuff that others don't even dare, those who just say things the way they are. Keep being totally not serious ;)I'll be totally biased and say that we absolutely and unbelievably rox!! Giant rox! Anyway, you can take a look at our photos and you'll get the picture ;)

We will meet again, somewhere else and do this all over again ;) Eurovision or no Eurovision ;)

Mega, giant hugs and kisses to all the lovely people! ;)

11:59 - I've survived an entire Eurovision week!

Phew! I made it! Except that my paw (?) is tired from writing all those autographs, and I still haven't forgiven Alesta and Bend Over for hiding me, I'm all healthy and safe. It's probably the rakija that saved me.

Oh, and yeah, Norway won. Hah!

For an example of a "wrong place at the wrong time" person, have a look at this conversation that I overheard from my posh seating in Sild's bag one night at EuroClub:

Random un-hot (yeah, they do exist, apparently - I was surprised too!) Serb: "Where are you from?"
Sild: "Norway."
Random un-hot Serb: "Ah, Norwegians are so hot - they and Serbs are the hottest in the world! I want to fuck them all the time. I love to fuck."
Sild: "Ok."
Random un-hot Serb: "Only women, though, not men. I hate gays!"

Boy, was he in for an interesting night...

Anyway, this picture kinda sums up the feel of the entire week:

12:30 - Contest kharasho, outcome gavno

So yeah, the outcome isn't what we or most other visitors or probably even a majority of those in attendance were hoping for, but it shouldn't taint what has been a fabulous and superbly organized contest. Sadly though, the outcome probably will spoil a lot of what people will take away from here. But life goes on and time will tell what will be in Moscow, or more importantly what'll be left of something we hold dear. It seemed to have gained its bearings on Tuesday and Thursday but it all came crumbling down last night. Or maybe we were just razzled and dazzled by the resounding success of the two semis, so much so that we couldn't see that at the end of a day it's nothing more than a rotting carcass of expected alliances.

It's a horrible feeling watching almost every country give their votes and knowing in advance where their top points will go. The UK could have sent Dima and Moscow coulda sent Andy and the outcome would be exactly as we saw last night, which giant sox as our beloved Elin would say. This isn't to say that Russia isn't deserving of a win, but it shouldn't happen this way. The EBU solved half of the problem with the brilliant system of the two semis but are still stuck with a final system that proves that nothing really changed.

But anyhoo, we still had a blast last night ditching the crappy after party in the Euro Club to mingle with ourselves and the artists in the more peaceful and refined lobby and piano bar of the Continental hotel, although our arrival put an end to the peaceful and especially refined part. We hobnobbed with the artists we loved (Laka, Maria, Rodolfo and the Chiklettes to mention a few) and the artists seemed to take everything in stride and no one looked particularly bovve'd. Paul even stole a few moments with an exhausted Svante as he returned to the hotel looking like he'd been flogged like a piņata. He told us that over the last year he'd been in and out of Belgrade over 20 times...so one can assume he's not looking forward to making similar trips to Russia. Still, let the bugger sleep in the bed he made.

Looking forward to a day of no Eurovision, enjoying the gorgeous weather, strolling the city and meeting up later for an au revoir Belgrade dinner with the board folk who are still here.

Just one last observation. What I'll mostly take away from here - beyond the friendly helpful people and the fabulous organization - is the unforgettable interval act where an entire arena of over 15,000 ecstatic people sang and danced along with the performers in an electrifying atmosphere. I doubt the majesty of it was conveyed on TV, if indeed anyone was watching, but it was something I've never experienced in the previous 3 contests I've attended. Was certainly worth the heartache that was to follow an hour later.

PS - saw this odd text message: Dear Swedes, expect a very cold winter. Love, Vlad
